Our
Mission
Our goal is to reveal the inequity amongst the ADA community at Bakersfield College, by documenting the experiences of physically disabled students on campus in addition to the architectural disparity of the Panorama campus in terms of how welcoming and accommodating it is for people with physical disabilities. Bakersfield College (BC) currently serves over 40,000 different students; attracting students from Bakersfield, Tehachapi, Arvin, Delano, Lamont, Wasco, Lost Hills, Shafter, and Mcfarland and is the premier community college in Kern County, which designates an extreme level of importance upon the college. We aim to fairly represent the experiences of students and faculty at BC by delivering a fair report on Bakersfield College's Panorama Campus.
Student Journalists
Madeline Ruebush
Madeline Ruebush is a Bakersfield College student currently majoring in Journalism. She was the Editor-in-Chief for the Renegade Rip newspaper during the fall semester of 2023, and she has written stories for her local newspaper in Tehachapi. Although she loves to write, her goal is to work within city planning or developing city environmental policy in order to create a city that promotes physical and mental well-being. She hopes this project expands her understanding of disability infrastructure and the disabled experience to help her identify needs in her future career.

Julian Caro
Julian Caro is a Bakersfield College student who is majoring in both English and Journalism. He is the 2024 Spring semesters Editor-in-chief of BC's student-led newspaper, The Renegade Rip. Despite pursuing a career in education, he is interested in the field of journalism to advocate for change and to share the stories for the voiceless. He plans on transferring to Cal State University of Bakersfield (CSUB) to major in English and minor in communications with an emphasis in journalism.

"We hope that our reporting will shed light on members of the disabled community and their struggles with accessibility at Bakersfield College in an attempt to reach higher education. Even further, we hope to improve BC as we both acknowledge and appreciate its prominence within not only the community but within our own lives; a prominence that we aim to strengthen."
